25sPER SPOKEN QUESTION

Take a 3-question oral test on "USMLE Step 1 — High-Yield Pharmacology".

The teacher reads each question out loud and starts the 25-second recall clock (our FSRS-6 rubric: Easy <4s, Good <15s, capped at Hard past 25s or if you repeat the question).

No account needed. Answer by voice or keyboard in your own words.

Why reading notes feels like 16/20 at home — and drops 20% on closed-book exams

When you highlight a lecture PDF or read an AI-generated study guide on a screen, your brain mistakes visual recognition for memory. As we detail in our guide on the 20% closed-book exam drop, that gap disappears the moment you flip the roles: instead of reading what an AI wrote, the teacher asks the question and forces you to retrieve the answer from scratch.

How the 25-second FSRS-6 hesitation rubric works

In both this browser tool and the native Loudwalk app on iPhone and Mac, every spoken question is evaluated on two axes:

  • Semantic meaning in your own words: You don’t need to recite the card verbatim. Saying “they block peptidoglycan cross-linking in the cell wall” or “the SA node in the right atrium” is accepted just like a human examiner would grade an oral board.
  • Deterministic response latency: As soon as the teacher finishes speaking the question, the recall clock starts. Answering accurately in under 4 seconds earns Easy; under 15 seconds earns Good; hesitating past 15–25 seconds (or asking to hear the question again) caps the grade at Hard so FSRS-6 schedules the card sooner.

Frequently asked questions

How does the PDF-to-Anki (.apkg) generator work?

When you drop a .pdf, .txt, or .md file, its text is extracted directly in your browser tab. When you click Generate, the Loudwalk service extracts 8 atomic active-recall flashcards with concise answers designed to be spoken in a single breath, and packages them into a genuine SQLite .apkg file in your browser.

Why is there a 25-second timer on each spoken question?

Reading a textbook or an AI-generated summary creates reading fluency — everything looks familiar on screen, yet studies show students score up to 20% lower on closed-book exams. Loudwalk uses a deterministic hesitation rubric alongside semantic grading: answering accurately in under 4 seconds earns Easy, under 15 seconds earns Good, and hesitating past 15–25 seconds (or asking to hear the question again) caps the grade at Hard even when your answer is right.

Do I have to speak my answer out loud, or can I type it?

You can do either. Tap Answer out loud to speak into your microphone, or type your explanation in your own words. Both are graded on meaning rather than verbatim wording.

Can I import the downloaded .apkg file into Anki and Loudwalk?

Yes. The downloaded .apkg file is a standard Anki 2.1 SQLite package that opens in Anki Desktop, AnkiMobile, AnkiDroid, and Loudwalk on iPhone and Mac.
